Terms of use

Last updated October 22, 2026

These terms cover this website and the free software DevForThought provides. By using either, you agree to them. A tool may come with its own additional terms, and if so, it will say so.

Our work is free

We never charge for our labor: planning, building, fixing or maintaining your tool. There are no fees, ads or paid upgrades from us, and we won't start charging for work on something you already use.

You cover your own running costs

Some tools need outside services to run, such as a domain name, hosting, or a paid plan with another company. Your organization pays those providers directly, in its own name and on its own accounts. We'll tell you what a tool will cost to run before we build it. We never mark up these costs or take a cut, and because the accounts are yours, you keep them if we ever stop working together.

Your data is yours

Anything you put into our software belongs to you or your organization. You can export it at any time, and we won't sell it or use it for anything except running the tool for you. Our privacy policy explains how we handle information.

Provided as-is

We build carefully and fix problems when we find them, but the website and software are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We don't promise that they'll always be available or free of errors. Keep your own copies of anything important.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, DevForThought isn't liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any lost data, revenue or donations, arising from your use of the website or software. Because we don't charge for our work, our total liability for any claim is limited to $0, except where the law doesn't allow that limit.

Using it fairly

Please don't use our website or software to break the law, harm others, send spam, or try to access data that isn't yours. We may suspend access for anyone who does.

If a tool is retired

If we ever stop running a tool, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice when we can, so you have time to export your data. Where possible, we'll also share the code so you can keep running it yourself.

Governing law

DevForThought is based in Covington, Louisiana. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the website or software after a change, the new terms apply.
